Spotted Gum

As one of Australia’s premium native hardwoods, spotted gum has a striking appearance and a high degree of natural resilience and strength. Combined with the wavy grain structure, attractive markings and vibrant colour palette, it’s a timber valued by
architects and designers the world over.

The “spotted” reference comes from the soft mottled colour produced by weathering of the outer tree as it sheds elliptical-shaped pieces of bark. The resulting colour varies widely from pale grey-browns, to soft creams, to a rich chocolate brown, even producing an olive green or red tinge occasionally.

Spotted gum has an astonishing level of natural fire resistance. It’s inherent fire retarding properties meet Australian Standard AS3959, and so can be used in bush-fire prone areas without any treatment.

Merbau

As with most natural timber products, colour variation within the merbau timber species is normal and one of its most appealing characteristics. Typically a dark reddish-brown in colour, occasionally a yellowish-brown, merbau decking has a noticeable grain appearance and is sure to enhance any outdoor living area. Renowned for high strength and remarkable durability, the average life expectancy of merbau decking with proper above-ground installation and regular maintenance is 25-50 years. Classed as a fire retardant species, merbau is naturally resistant to termite attack and decay

Blackbutt

Blackbutt is a remarkably fire resistant eucalyptus that grows in the coastal forests of New South Wales and South East Queensland. It’s inherent durability, in combination with proper maintenance, means blackbutt decking can last for some 25-30 years! As with most natural timber products, colour variation within the blackbutt timber species is normal and one of its most appealing characteristics. Generally a pale brown to slightly pinkish tone, with an even texture and straight grain, blackbutt decking is sure to complement any outdoor living area.

Treated Pine

Manufactured from sustainable plantation grown radiata pine, it is pressure-treated with a light organic solvent preservative (LOSP) for protection against insect attacks and moisture decay, substantially extending the life of your structure.

This makes it suitable for above-ground outdoor use, but can easily be adopted for any indoor application. Featuring a “reeded reversible” pattern or profile, this decking has one reeded side with longitudinal grooves, and the other side plain or smooth in finish.

A popular misconception is that the grooves provide an optional non-slip surface choice – this is incorrect, the grooves serve to reduce surface contact between the decking and joist, in turn preventing water retention and therefore decay. However, it’s not uncommon for this intent to be lost and the decking installed reeded-side up, so in the end it’s your call.

Mixed Whites

Mixed Whites is a mix of two species – Stringybark (Class 2) and White Mahogany (Class 1). Stringybark has an appearance similar to Blackbutt, and White Mahogany is blonder than Blackbutt.
